About Us

Our Director, Jim Flanders

Jim is a life-long resident of NH, growing up in Hillsborough where he got his musical start performing in the Hillsboro-Deering Co-Operative High School band and chorus. During the summers, Jim would perform with the town band and sing solos at the local churches. Over the years, he has studied instrumental and vocal music at a number of places. He has performed instrumentally in various town bands, dance bands, concert bands and theater company orchestras. Vocally, he has performed in a number of classical and popular ensembles including a Bach Ensemble, madrigal choir, various sacred choirs, church choirs, town choruses, the Keene Pops Choir (where he met his future wife Kim), the Keene Cheshiremen Chorus, the Bear Essentials Quartet, The Cheshire Cats Quartet, and the Times Square Quartet. He has done extensive solo work at various engagements including weddings and funerals as well as civic events.

Jim first joined the Keene Legion Band in the spring of 1978 as a trumpeter. Following the birth of his daughter Courtney, Jim resigned from the band in 1990 to spend more time with his family. In the fall of 2000, he rejoined the band as its Conductor. Since that time, he has devoted his energies to increasing the size and instrumental diversity of the band as well as improving its musical skills.

In addition to the Keene Legion Band, Jim is the Chorus Director of the Keene Cheshiremen Chorus and Choir Director at Grace United Methodist Church. Jim lives in Spofford with his wife Kim and daughter Courtney.
